Unique Vintage Clothing

Vintage Fashion At The Walpole Bay Hotel Museum

I can say with confidence that I have never been to a museum that lets you get so up-close and personal with the exhibits,

As well as being a fully functional hotel, decorated in a post Edwardian style, the Warpole Bay Hotel also has a duel purpose as a museum. Interesting!

If you are not blown away by the gorgeous art deco and art nouvea furnishings and decor on the ground floor, then take a trip up to the second floor which is literally jam packed with interesting vintage objects.

I personally came to partake in a cup of tea, and see the unique vintage clothing that is displayed there in a charming, sometimes hap-hazard way. If fashion is not your thing, there are all sorts of old fashioned homewares, dolls, furnishings, technology, ornaments... You never know what you will find, it's like grandmas attic on a grand scale.

Vintage Sewing Machines

A few pictures of vintage sewing machines, that I found in a room at the Walpole Bay Hotel Museum.

I find it hard using my modern machine, so these cranky old machines blew my mind! My mother has a vintage Singer sewing machine, but although old, hers is much more advanced compared to these early designs.

Cheap Mannequin Review

I have been looking for a cheap dress mannequin for a while, but have been unsure on which type to buy. I only needed a low price one, nothing fancy, it doesn't need to be adjustable, just in my size so that I can easily carry out my fashion re-purposes, without trying on clothing full of pins, and trying to make alterations in the mirror!

My mother found a selection of styrofoam models on Amazon, which I was 'umming-and-ahhhing' about getting. I was unsure that styrofoam would be a good material to pin fabric to, and worried that the mannequin would start to degrade quickly.

I read all of the reviews for that model that I could find online, and discovered that some versions came with a jersey cover, this can be pinned through and kept on the mannequin to stop the styrofoam degrading when it's jabbed with pins. The reviews were very positive which really made up my mind.

Deconstructed Denim Skirt (A Work In Progress)

This is a work in progress, I admit it does look a bit incomplete at the moment, but will hopefully grow into something interesting (I was going to say 'beautiful' but I think that's too far fetched!)

What this raggy looking item is going to be is a deconstructed denim skirt. It is made from a pair of jeans, which I cut across at the crotch, to make the skirt waistband, and long strips of denim from the legs of the jeans (cut in half length ways), which I have been pinning onto the waistband to form the skirt.

Pic 1 shows the skirt with 1 strip of denim pinned - Pic 2 shows it with 3 strips of denim pinned

Some of the strips have been folded and others are woven around each other, at the moment each strip is secured with pins because I want to be able to easily change things before I begin to sew.  - I've changed the design at least 4 times, I think it flows nicely now though.

I wanted to see block and triangle designs in my skirt, (formed by the different shaded denim) and one of the main design problems that I had to overcome was that I would get carried away, forget about flow, and then random irregular shapes would appear and ruin the look of the design.

Funny Fashion Memes - Stuff I Do When I'm Bored!

I have become addicted to making funny fashion memes :0 Well, 'funny' is subjective so I apologize if I am just not funny at all, hahha! Seriously though, this is a lot of fun, I am clearly spending too much time alone!

Armageddon Fashion - Don't Do It!

Every time I look at this Polyvore set of mine I feel nervous...

You see, I made this set the night that a comet was going to pass close to the earth... There was a lot of talk of it going off course and wiping us all out, so I decided to try to calm my nerves by picking out a day and night look for the event.

Tan Leather Boots, Sequins, And Suede Blazer - My Style

This is a casual outfit that I have thrown together for Fall. (I am squinting a bit in the middle pic, lol!) the base colors for the look are brown tones and grey. This is a nice comfy outfit for shopping and that is exactly where I am off to in the pics...
